I forgot to post this!!

I haven’t updated in forever. Sorry! Emerson had an ophthalmologist appointment on Monday. Don’t worry, his eyes are fine. Both of his therapists thought it would be a great idea to have his eyes checked, so I took their suggestion and made an appointment. Thank God nothing was wrong. Now that we’ve gotten the dentist and ophthalmologist out of the way, he just needs a flu shot, then should be set for the year. I’ll schedule that for an evening one day within the next two weeks. It should be a fairly quick appointment anyway. I have mine scheduled for next week (I think).

We haven’t been doing much this week. We have a lot coming up this weekend, so we’ve been laying low. Let’s not even mention the fact that I have $1.84 in my bank account. Luckily, pay day is tomorrow. I had to spend my last dollars on wipes and pull-ups for Emerson, so it’s been a pretty low-key week. Anyway, On Saturday, we’re having our fall party. I’ve put together such cute décor without even spending a penny! I had so many supplies laying around the house, that I haven’t had to buy anything. Tomorrow, I’ll grab the food/drinks, and a few odds and ends, but I’m throwing this entire party for about $120.00. The best part is I know we’ll have tons of leftovers, so in some way, I feel like I’m spending even less because we’ll be eating this food for days! I can’t wait. I’m not even sure what kind of turn-out we’ll have. I honestly don’t even care either. I’ll be happy if 2 or 12 people show up. I know it’ll be a good time, something cute for the kids, but a way for the adults to relax too.  I’d really like to get mostly everything ready on Friday night, so that I can take Emerson up to Giggles and Smiles to tire him out on Saturday. He has been napping so amazing for me lately. He’s been going from about 2pm-5pm without an issue. If he does that on Saturday, I’ll be one happy mom. I can set everything up and get ready for the party uninterrupted. On top of that, he’ll be well-rested to live in up with the other kids.  Cross your fingers that he naps for me on Saturday!

On Sunday, my sister and I are taking the kids on a fall trolley tour. They also get to pick a pumpkin and decorate it as well as have snacks. We’re going to make a stop at Sarris Candy afterwards too because it’s only about 10 minutes away from the trolley place. That’ll round out our weekend. I’m really excited! I absolutely love this time of year. Upcoming, we have a Halloween Parade, a hayride to benefit the animal shelter, the library’s Halloween party, a Halloween event at the aviary, daycare’s Halloween party, plus trick-or-treat!  I need to make Emerson’s costumes. I found a yellow tee for $3 for his Charlie Brown costume. I just need some black felt and he needs a black pair of pants to wear with it. I believe the ones we already own are too small. He is also being a lumberjack (we need an axe for that), and Jake from State Farm. I need to grab a red polo, khakis, and make a nametag for him. I know three costumes seem like a lot, but all are so cheap, and he needs to dress up for several events. Wearing the same costume over and over would be boring for me. I am a picture-a-holic, so I want some variety!

Our Halloween movie list is coming along great. Below are what we have watched so far, and a review of each:

The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown-We’ve watched this at least 10 times and love it

Spookley the Square pumpkin-he had no interest in this

Frankenweenie- LOVED this, but I cried when the dog got hit by a car

Shrek’s Halloween- LOVES this!

The Little Vampire-Eh, I this wasn’t age appropriate for him to watch, so we aren’t going to finish it even though he seemed to like it.

Hotel Transylvania- LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!

Monsters, Inc- He loved this and watched it a few times

Monster’s University-He wasn’t as interested in this as I had hoped

Mickey’s Treat-He watched this twice and liked it!

Upcoming:

Celebrate Fall! (it’s a combo of bubble guppies, paw patrol, and blaze)

Garfield Halloween

Hotel Transylvania 2

Toy Story of Terror

Casper

Nightmare before Christmas (we’ll give this a shot)

Dinosaur Train (Halloween adventure)

Mickey’s Monster Musical

Guardians of the galaxy (lots of different holidays in this one)

So  many movies, but it has been really fun for me finding different ones for us to watch. Last weekend, I built a tent in the living room and brought the air mattress up for Em to watch Hotel Transylvania. He loved it!  It’s the little things, right? I have a pretty nice list going for Thanksgiving movies, but nothing as extensive as this. We’ll mix in some regular stuff too. This week, we tossed in Madagascar and The Wild. I like saving the Halloween movies for the weekends, but it’s good to toss in some regular ones here and there. You guys probably think I’m making him a t.v. junkie. I’m really not. He watches television for about 10-15 minutes every morning, while I’m running around and for about 1.5 hours every evening, but not even consistently. Yesterday, we played in the yard after work/school. I put the t.v. on, while I cooked dinner, then we watched “The Wild” until bedtime. He usually ignores the t.v. while I’m cooking dinner because he’s busy playing with his toys, so it’s a good balance.  On weekends, I let him watch in the mornings until we head out for the day, then he usually comes home for nap, then I let him watch again at night. It sounds more excessive than it is. We do A LOT and he isn’t home A LOT, so when we are there, I let him do what he wants. I mix in crafts and activities that we do together too, so it’s not all t.v. watching.

Anyway, in November, we’re taking a BIG break on excursions. I mean, we’re doing NOTHING. It’s going to be  A LOT of movies, crafts at home, and activities that cost nothing. I need to hunker down for Christmas. I want to make sure that we can participate in a lot of activities, plus I want to be able to buy Emerson the items on my list. He also needs winter clothes, boots, etc.  I just need to discipline myself to handle sitting at home doing nothing. It’s me who gets bored!  I run out of things for us to do and then I’m like “let’s go do something”.

Alright, that’s about all I have. I’ll update with pics from the party!

Our weekend

Our weekend was jam packed, but so much fun. On Friday night, Emerson, my sister, and nephew all headed over to Applefest at Emerson’s daycare. We did crafts and had snacks. Em and the other kids mostly played with the daycare toys, while the parents and older ones crafted, but that was okay. We all had a good time and it was nice to do a free activity on a Friday night. We got home around 7:15pm, so we had a late dinner, watched some t.v., then Em had a bath and bedtime. Afterward, I had to work for a couple of more hours, then I hit the hay around 10pm.

On Saturday, we skipped the Home Depot firetruck workshop, but made plans to go roller skating that afternoon instead. We had so much fun! Emerson’s poor cheeks were beat red from working up such a sweat. He played air hockey with my nephew and had a blast. He played a couple of other video games, while we were there too. I also skated, which isn’t something that I’ve done in years. Afterward, Em took a three hour nap. He was exhausted after all of that skating.  After nap was over around 530pm, we hit the grocery store for ingredients to make Halloween ice cream sundaes. I pulled out “The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” and “Frankenweenie” for us to watch. Em loved both! He didn’t move a muscle while “Frankenweenie” was on.  Afterward, he got a bath, then bedtime. More work for this mama followed though, then I hit the hay around 10.

On Sunday morning, Emerson slept in longer than usual. I think he slept until about 8:30am! We had plans to go to the pumpkin patch that day, so I wasn’t complaining. It meant I got to sleep in too. We left the house in our matching flannel shirts around 11am to pick up my sister and nephew. We got to the farm around 11:45am. There were no lines! I was shocked. We walked in and immediately hopped on the hayride, which looped us all around the farm and dumped us in a giant pumpkin patch. After the hayride, we saw all of the animals, did a haunted house, let the kids jump in the bounce houses, go down a couple of huge, tube slides, did a corn maze, then finished up at the barn where there were tons of tractors for the kids to play on. It was a really nice day. Muddy, but nice! Afterward, we took the kids to Burger King for lunch and let them play in the play place. Em napped for three hours once we got home. Last night, we just had dinner, bath, then snack. Nothing fancy. We watched “The Peanuts Movie” again. It has to go back to the library today, but I’ll re-rent it tomorrow.I have a ton of Halloween shows and movies on our list. We’re going to watch as many as we can this month. Next up is Monsters, Inc. and Hotel Transylvania.

Tomorrow, Em has a dentist appointment, then soccer on Wednesday. I have parent-teacher conferences on Friday night after work. My sister is going to keep Emerson, so I can attend myself. This upcoming weekend, we’re heading to a creamery that churns its own ice cream. They have an awesome deal for $8.50. Everyone gets a pumpkin, ice cream, and a hayride. They also have a small petting zoo, and tube slide for the kids. We’re skipping the hayride though. We’ve already done two this year and that one is 30 minutes long, which I think is ridiculous, especially for having nothing to look at during the ride.  That’s about all we have on the list. If we get bored on Sunday, I’ll take Em up to the mall play place. I want to spend as little as possible.

Alright, that’s about all I have for now. Have a great week, all!

Our weekend

The weekend was so nice. On Friday night, we didn’t do much. My mom had to pick Em up from daycare for me because that’s my late day at work. We hung at my parent’s for a bit, then headed home. They fed Em dinner, so I didn’t even need to cook. We watched some of “The Peanuts Movie”, had a snack, then Em had bath, then bed. I was tired, so went up to bed around 9pm.

On Saturday morning, I went on a major cleaning spree. I moved all of the toys from the living room up into Em’s bedroom. I never let him play in his room before. That room was just for sleep purposes even though I did decorate it cute. I decided to just go for it. I was deathly afraid that it would ruin his bed and nap time because he’d know all of those toys were in there and he’d get up to play. That held true on Saturday afternoon and at bedtime last night. I was firm with him though, and he went to sleep. It’s amazing not having all of those toys littering my living room. We have two totes downstairs and the trampoline. That’s it. It feels so much less cluttered, which makes me happy. I think Em likes the option of having more spaces to play in too.  I think it kept him from getting too bored in the house too. The morning flew by.

In the afternoon, we headed out to a fall fest, which was an hour north of our house. We had such a great time. Em played in the hay maze, we did a hay ride, and we also got to hang with a ton of animals in the petting zoo. Everything was FREE, which made it even better. The weather was absolutely gorgeous too. We didn’t get home until almost 4pm. Em had no nap, so he was pretty cranky. I tried  to lay him down, but he wasn’t having it. We ended up having an early dinner. Afterwards, I made popcorn and hot chocolate to have while we watched “The Peanuts Movie”.  I let Em stay up a little later than usual.

Sunday was a lazy day for us. Lots of movies, yard time, and toy time. We did venture out to visit my parents and sister after nap, but that was the extent of it. Spending $0 all weekend was great though. We need a lot more of days like that. Unfortunately, we have a ton of things planned for fall. This upcoming week, we have soccer on Wednesday, Applefest at daycare on Friday, then we’re doing the pumpkin patch this weekend. Not too bad, but the pumpkin patch is $13 for me to get in and $8 for Em. I’m sure we’ll end up purchasing a snack while we’re there too. I’ll guestimate about $30.00 will be spent at the farm.

Em and I both have colds right now and it sucks. He has a runny/stuffy nose and a couch. I have a sore throat and achiness. I’m hoping it’s just from the weather change and nothing too serious. Both of us have flu shots coming up, but I’m considering skipping. I feel like we get sick right after we get them anyway. I’m not sure if I should risk not getting it though. Either way, I feel like we’re going to get something regardless. I’ll need to think about this some more.

Alright, I hope you all have a fabulous week!

Whew

Soccer was just as crazy last night, but better in a sense. I wasn’t so burnt out by him, so I was ready to battle, and boy, did I battle! He was flopping onto the grass, throwing himself down, and running off like a mad little person in between drills. All of the kids were being pretty crazy though, so I didn’t feel as bad. He did well with the activities Coach Matt (same coach as Saturday sessions) set up, so that made me happy. We have five more weeks to get through. I hope through all of this craziness, he’s learning something and retains anything that his coach is teaching him.  I was proud of him though for sticking through the entire thing even after having to be given a few time-outs for being overly disruptive. He was so hot and tired by the time we left the field. I loaded him up with snacks and water for the drive home. We didn’t get home that much later. It was 6pm when we rolled in the door. I made a quick dinner, we ate, hung out, then Em had bath, and bedtime around 7:30pm. He was beat and so was I. I ended up heading up to bed around 9pm.  The best part is we’re done for the week. We don’t have to interrupt our weekend now with soccer craziness. I should have done this from the get go. Lesson learned!

Tonight, my nephew has his very first school dance, so we’re going to head over after I pick Emerson up from daycare. How crazy is that? I can’t believe he’s in 7th grade. Where the heck has the time gone? I suppose I’ll be saying that about Emerson before I know it. I’m sure he’ll wonder why we’re making such a big deal over this, but it’s a pretty big milestone in my eyes. His first dance! I asked him if he had a date and he laughed at me. I’m going to take that as a “No”, but I’m sure he’s scoping someone out. He is at that age. Too funny.

This Saturday, we’re heading over to “Truck Day” in a neighboring community. Emerson loves trucks of all kinds, so I thought that would be cute. I’m not sure what they’ll all have, but it’s something to do that we can swing by and check out. Other than that, we don’t have much planned. I want to lay low for a while, so that I can save every last penny for us to be able to do a lot of fall stuff. There is also a fall fest on Saturday that I’d like to go to.  It only runs 11-3pm and isn’t located anywhere near Truck day, so I don’t know that we’ll even get to do both. I guess we’ll see how truck day pans out first. If we aren’t there very long, we can always head over to the fall fest for a bit.

That’s about it for the weekend. Nothing too exciting, but I’m okay with that! Have a super day, all!
